La Amistad National Park is a national park that features breathtaking views of mountaintops and great lakes. The park is almost 600,000 hectares long, and is on the Costa Rica-Panama border. Come and visit our breathtaking heights and rugged landscapes. We are home to over ten thousand species of plants and animals, who all live here. We have about 215 species of mammals. Also, we have around 600 species of birds and 250 species of reptile/ amphibians. Lastly, we have 115 species of freshwater fish. Something interesting we should let you know is that our park consists of a variety of climates. This means that there can be a rainforest in one area and a few miles away there can be glaciers. These glaciers are extraordinary to view and you have to see them for yourself. Glaciers are very common in our area and came into Costa Rican waters by
floating from the colder Arctic waters north.
While we have a beautiful park, it isn't easy to maintain. There are many things you should know before you come to visit, but this is the most important mantra you should follow:
Take nothing but pictures; leave nothing but footprints. The ecosystem in this park relies on a delicate balance between the organisms.
Taking something that belongs to the forest may cause a chain of events that can cause several species to become endangered. Leaving waste here such as cigarette butts or soda cans may harm organisms who live in the area.
